Myths about Making Money Online

Can you really make money online? Separating the truth from the myths

Making money online is a dream come true. Who wouldn’t want to stay at home and work in their pajamas? Just about everybody. Can you make money by working at home online? Yes. So what’s the problem? Myths. There are many myths and misconceptions about working online. Let’s look at a few of these and see if working online is for you.

Myth #1 — Making money online is easy

This is the number one problem when it comes to making money online. Because people think working at home, setting your own hours, and working in your pajamas is easy, the work must be easy too.

Wrong. You know the old saying, “If it’s worth having, it’s worth working for”? That couldn’t be more true for working online.

Yes, people will tell you it’s easy — anybody can do it — you only have to work one hour a day. Those are the scammers.

Making money online is very possible, but it’s a job like any other job. Money isn’t going to fall into your lap. You have to work for it.

Myth #2 — If you build a website, they will come

Many people are sold on the idea of having a website and getting rich. They are told all they have to do is sell products from their website and it’s like an “automatic money machine.”

Can you make money with a website? Yes. The problem is there are approximately 100,000,000 websites on the Internet. You can build the greatest website in the world, but if no one knows it’s there — no money. Again — it’s work.

Myth #3 — Surveys are an easy way to make money at home

Many stay-at-home moms are told this. It sounds good. You just sign up, companies contact you, and you make money. The problem again is that it isn’t easy.

Yes, you can make money doing surveys. The problem is that everyone tries this. The survey companies have thousands if not millions of people wanting to do surveys for them.

Here’s how it works:

They tell you they have a possible survey for you. You spend the time answering pages of questions to see if you qualify to take part in the survey. This is very time consuming. If you fit their criteria, you may get to take part in the survey.

Most of your time is spent answering questions to see if you qualify for the survey. Most often, you never get to take part in a survey; therefore, you don’t get paid. Many times if you take part in a survey, your name is put into a “drawing” and if your name is chosen, you make some money.

The people telling you that you can make money by doing surveys are making money every time someone believes them and signs up under their name. You can make a lot of money if you’re the one telling people they can make money doing surveys.

Myth #4 — You can make money shopping

This falls into the same category as making money online doing surveys. Yes, making money “mystery shopping” is possible — just not probable.

Once again, the person making the money is the one who got you to sign up for “mystery shopping”. There are thousands of people applying for these “jobs”. If you do get one, you will find that it is very time consuming and you don’t get paid very well.

The bottom line is, you can make money online but don’t be tricked into thinking that it’s easy. Working online is a job like any other job and it takes work. If it sounds easy, it’s probably too good to be true.
